Climate chart - Khorog
The climate of Khorog is arid continental, with very cold winters and hot, sunny summers.
Khorog (also transliterated as Khorugh, Kharagh), is a city of 30,000 inhabitants, located in southern Tajikistan, near the border with Afghanistan, on the Pamir road, in the autonomous region of Gorno-Badakhshan (of which it is the capital), at 2,100 meters (7,000 feet) above sea level and at 37 degrees north latitude.
The Panj river (the ancient Ochus), receives the waters of the Ghunt near Khorog and then heads northwest, where it will flow into the Amu Darya.

Precipitation is scarce, since it amounts to about 265 millimeters (10.5 inches) per year.
Summer is the driest season.

Winter, from December to February, is very cold: the average temperature in January is around -6 °C (21 °F).
Snowfall is frequent, although not usually heavy.
During cold waves, the temperature drops to -15 °C (5 °F) almost every year, and more rarely to around -25 °C (-13 °F). The coldest record is -27.1 °C (-16.8 °F), set in January 1975. Tha month, the monthly daily average was -11.8 °C (10.8 °F).

Summer, from June to August, is hot and sunny, despite the altitude, although the temperature drops significantly at night. The average for July and August is around 22.5 °C (72.5 °F).
Sometimes there can be very hot periods, during which the temperature can reach and exceed 35 °C (95 °F). The heat record is 39 °C (102.2 °F), set in July 2022.
In that month, the average maximum was 33.9 °C (93 °F).
