The climate of Bokhtar is
arid continental, with quite mild winters and very hot, sunny summers.

Köppen classification, the mean annual temperature of Bokhtar, 17.5 °C (63.5 °F), is close to the threshold (18 °C or 64.5 °F) between the cold semi-arid or steppe climate (BSk) and the hot semi-arid climate (BSh).
Bokhtar (also transliterated as Boxtar, in the past Qurghonteppa or Kurgan-Tyube) is a city of 110,000 inhabitants, located in the south-west of Tajikistan (the third largest), in the province of Chatlon (of which it is the capital), at 400 meters (1,300 feet) above sea level and at almost 38 degrees north latitude.
Both to the west and east are
mountain ranges that reach approximately 2,000 meters (6,500 ft) in height.
Precipitation is quite scarce, amounting to 275 millimeters (10.8 inches) per year. It occurs mostly from November to May, while in summer it almost never rains.
Winter, from December to February, is quite mild during the day, although there are cold nights, during which the temperature often drops below freezing. The average temperature in January is around 5.5 °C (42 °F).
In periods of stable weather,
fog can form.
There are mild periods, during which the temperature can reach 20 °C (68 °F).
However, there can be cold periods, during which it can snow. In addition, there can be
cold waves, during which the temperature can drop to -10 °C (14 °F ) or below. Occasionally it can even drop to -20 °C (-4 °F), although in recent decades this has become rare. The record is -24.1 °C (-11.4 °F), set in January 1937.
Summer, from June to August, is very hot and sunny. The average in July is 29.5 °C (85 °F).
On the hottest days, the temperature reaches or exceeds 40 °C (104 °F), and occasionally reaches 42/43 °C (108/109 °F).
