Climate chart - Qamishli
The climate of Qamishli is temperate semi-arid, with quite mild, relatively rainy winters and very hot, sunny summers.
Qamishli (or Kamishli) is a city of 185,000 inhabitants, located in north-eastern Syria, in the governorate of al-Hasaka, at 450 meters (1,475 feet) above sea level and at 37 degrees north latitude. Across the border with Turkey is the city of Nusaybin.

Precipitation is scarce, since it amounts to 360 millimeters (14 inches) per year, however, from December to April it is moderate. In summer, on the other hand, it almost never rains.

The winter, from December to February, is quite mild, with an average January temperature of around 7.5 °C (45.5 °F). There are sunny periods, however, there are also periods of bad weather, with wind, rain and thunderstorms.
During cold air outbreaks, snowfall occurs at least once a year, and can occasionally be heavy.
During these cold spells, the temperature usually drops a few degrees below freezing. In recent decades, the coldest record is -11.3 °C (11.7 °F), set in January 2008.

The summer, from June to mid-September, is torrid and sunny. The average temperature in July is to 32.5 °C (90.5 °F). Fortunately, however, humidity is low.
During heat waves, the temperature can reach or exceed 45 °C (113 °F). The heat record is 48.5 °C (119.3 °F), set in July 2011. In August 2023, the average maximum was 42.6 °C (108.7 °F).
