Climate chart - Palmyra
The climate of Palmyra is subtropical desert, with mild winters and very hot, sunny summers.
Palmyra (or Tadmor, Tadmur) is a city of 50,000 inhabitants, located in an oasis in the center of Syria, in the governorate of Homs, at 400 meters (1,300 feet) above sea level and at 34 degrees north latitude.

Precipitation is decidedly scarce, since it amounts 135 millimeters (5.3 inches) per year. It falls mostly from October to April, while from June to September it practically never rains.

The winter, from December to February, is mild. The average in January is about 7.5 °C (45.5 °F).
There are several sunny periods, however, there can also be periods of bad weather, with wind, rain and thunderstorms, even though for a few days a month.
During the outbreaks of cold air that hit the Middle East, there can also be snowfall, generally light given the low level of precipitation.
