Climate chart - Latakia
The climate of Latakia is Mediterranean, with mild, rainy winters and hot, sunny summers.
Latakia (or Lattakia, formerly Laodicea) is a city of 385,000 inhabitants, located in the northwest of Syria, on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea, and at 35 degrees north latitude.
To the east are the mountains of the coastal range, known as An-Nusayriyah, which separates this small part of Syria, with a mild and humid climate, from the rest of the country, which has a more continental and arid climate. Mount Nabi Yunis, the highest peak, reaches 1,568 meters (5,144 feet).

Precipitation is moderate, since it amounts to 770 millimeters (30 inches) per year, however, it is concentrated from October to April, a period during which it can be abundant. In summer, however, it almost never rains.

The winter, from December to February, is mild, with an average temperature in January of around 12 °C (53.5 °F). There are sunny periods, however, there are also periods of bad weather, with wind, rain and thunderstorms.
Sometimes there can be somewhat cold periods, with lows around freezing and highs around 10 °C (50 °F). In the last few decades, the coldest record at the airport is -3 °C (26.5 °F). Snow, on the other hand, is extremely rare.

The summer, from June to September, is hot, muggy and sunny. The average temperature in August, the hottest month, is 27.5 °C (81.5 °F). The humidity is high, although the sea breeze provides some relief. Rainfall is very rare.
Due to the influence of the sea, temperatures are stable. However, there may be periods when the sultry heat is particularly felt.
In addition, there may sometimes be heat waves, brought by the wind that blows from the deserts of Egypt, which are more likely in spring, and a little less in autumn, and during which the temperature can reach or exceed 35 °C (95 °F). In these cases, however, the humidity drops considerably. The heat records are around 40/41 °C (104/106 °F).

In summer, the sea in Latakia is pleasantly warm and allows for long swims.
