The climate of Öland is Baltic, that is to say, relatively continental, with cold winters and mild summers.
Öland is the second Swedish island and is located a short distance from the south-eastern coast of Sweden. Compared to the mainland, it has a dry and sunny microclimate.
Given the latitude (56°40'N in the central part of the island), the white nights, in which the sun sets but it does not get completely dark even at midnight, occur from May 28 to July 15.
In winter, during polar cold spells, the temperature can drop to -20 °C (-4 °F) or below. The coldest record is -21.8 °C (-7.2 °F) and was set in February 1956.
In summer, the temperature can reach 28/30 °C (82/86 °F). The highest record is 32 °C (89.6 °F) and was set in late June 1947.
