Climate chart - La Coruña
The climate of La Coruña (A Coruña in Galician) is temperate oceanic, with mild, rainy winters and cool, quite sunny summers.
The city is located on the coast, in the north-westernmost part of Spain, where the influence of the Atlantic Ocean is strongly felt. Indeed, winter is particularly mild, even milder than in other cities in Galicia and on the northern Spanish coast, while summer is quite cool.
In return, the wind blows frequently, and can be strong, especially from October to April. Furthermore, the rains are frequent for many months of the year.

The average temperature of the coldest months (January and February) is of 11 °C (52 °F), that of the warmest month (August) is of 20 °C (68 °F).

Precipitation amounts to 1,045 millimeters (41.1 inches) per year.

The winter, from December to February, is mild, but it is also cloudy, rainy and windy.
Cold air masses from the north rarely produce significant effects, however, there can be cold days, with highs below 10 °C (50 °F).
Snowfalls are very rare: even in the rare periods when it snows in other areas of Galicia, La Coruña is generally spared. However, it snowed in February 1963 and January 1987.
Frosts are also very rare. In the past, there have been slight frosts, for example, -3 °C (26.5 °F) in February 1948 and -2.5 °C (27.5 °F) in February 1956, but from 1990 to 2020, the temperature only dropped to 0 °C (32 °F) in the coldest winters.
It must be said that the city is so mild because it is located directly on the coast. Already at Alvedro airport, located a few kilometers south of the city, the temperature normally drops to -2/-3 °C (27/28 °F) on the coldest nights of the year, and dropped to -5 °C (23 °F) in January 1985.

The summer, from mid-June to mid-September, is quite cool. There are times when the temperature remains below 20 °C (68 °F) even during the day. Fog can form at night and early in the morning.
There may be sunny periods, but also periods when the weather is changeable or cloudy, and there may be drizzles and short showers.
Hot days are very rare: the temperature reaches or exceeds 30 °C (86 °F) just once or twice a year. In August 2003, it reached 34 °C (93 °F) but only for one day.

La Coruña

The sea temperature ranges between 13 °C (55 °F) and 19 °C (66 °F). So, the ocean stays cold enough even in summer, however, the brave can try swimming from July to September.

Best Time

The best time to visit La Coruña is the summer, from June to August or the first half of September, since it is the driest and sunniest period of the year.
