Climate chart - Syktyvkar
The climate of Syktyvkar is cold continental, with very cold winters and very mild to pleasantly warm summers.
Syktyvkar is a city of 245,000 inhabitants located in north-central European Russia, at the confluence of the Sysola and Vyčegda rivers, at almost 62 degrees north latitude, and is the capital of the Komi Republic.

Precipitation is not abundant, amounting to about 640 millimeters (25 inches) per year. As often happens in cold climates, the rainiest season is summer.
Precipitation generally occurs in the form of snow mainly or exclusively from November to March, while in October and April it alternates with rain. Sometimes, however, it can even snow in September and May. Instead, in summer, precipitation can occur in the form of thunderstorms.

Winter, from November to March, is freezing cold: the average temperature in January is around -14 °C (7 °F). The sky is often cloudy, and light snow often falls.
The ground is normally covered in snow from late October to mid-April. Since the average amount of precipitation that falls in winter is not low, snowfall can sometimes be heavy, and the snow can exceed one meter (40 inches) in height.
During cold waves, the temperature can drop below -30 °C (-22 °F). It has sometimes dropped below -40 °C (-40 °F), although the last time it happened was in January 1999, with -41 °C (-41.8 °F).
The coldest record is -46.6 °C (-52 °F), set in January 1973.

Summer, from June to August, is very mild or pleasantly warm, with fairly frequent rains and thunderstorms. Fog can form at night.
While it is true that in June it can still get cold, and in August the temperature already begins to drop, July, with an average of 17.5 °C (63.5 °F), stands out as the mildest month, so much so that there are several warm days. However, it depends on the year, in fact, sometimes it can get very cool, if not cold, even in July.
Sometimes there can also be hot periods, during which the temperature can reach or exceed 30 °C (86 °F). The hottest record is 34.5 °C (94.1 °F), set in July 2020.
In July 1988, the average high was 28 °C (82.4 °F).
