Saransk has a continental climate (according to the Köppen classification, humid continental with warm summers - Dfb), with cold winters, during which the temperature is normally below freezing, and warm summers.
Saransk is a city of 320,000 inhabitants, the capital of the Republic of Mordovia, located in European Russia, at 54 degrees north latitude and 510 km (315 mi) east-southeast of Moscow.
