The climate of Nizhny Novgorod is
continental (according to the Köppen classification, humid continental with warm summers - Dfb), with cold winters, during which the temperature is normally below freezing, and warm summers.
Niznij Novgorod (formerly known as Gorky) is a city of 1,250,000 inhabitants located in European Russia, at 56 degrees north latitude and 390 km (240 mi) east of Moscow. At the city, the Oka River enters the
Volga, the largest river in Europe, which rises northwest of Moscow and then flows into the Caspian Sea.
