Climate chart - Krasnodar
The climate of Krasnodar is continental, with cold winters and hot, sunny summers.
Krasnodar is a city of 1,000,000 inhabitants located in southern European Russia, at 45 degrees north latitud, in the plain north of the Caucasus, called Ciscaucasia. The Kuban River widens near the city into an artificial lake, a reservoir more than 10 km (6 mi) wide, which provides additional humidity.
To the southwest, the Caucasus mountain range, which in the western part is low, a few hundred meters, separates Krasnodar from the coast of the Black Sea, which is about 90 km (55 mi) away. On this coast we find cities such as Anapa and Novorossiysk. To the northwest we find the Sea of Azov, a smaller part of the Black Sea, closed by the Crimean Peninsula.

Precipitation is moderate, amounting to about 700 millimeters (27.5 in) per year, and is well distributed throughout the year, with a maximum in May and June. In winter, precipitation can appear in the form of snow, and in late spring and summer in the form of thunderstorms.

Winter, from December to February, is cold: the average temperature in January is around freezing.
Fog can form during periods of stable weather.
Due to the southern position and proximity to the Black Sea, the winter is less cold than in Moscow and in the inland areas of Russia, furthermore, southern currents can bring mild periods, with highs of 10 °C (50 °F) and above. In January 2007, the temperature reached 18 °C (64.4 °F), and the average maximum was 8.6 °C (47.5 °F).
However, cold waves are also possible, during which the temperature can drop to -20 °C (-4 °F) or even lower. Occasionally it has also dropped below -30 °C (-22 °F). The coldest record is -33.6 °C (-28.5 °F), set in January 2006.

Summer, from June to August, is hot and sunny, although there are also days with rain or thunderstorms. The average in July and August exceeds 24 °C (75 °F).
Sometimes there can be heat waves, during which the temperature can reach 38/39 °C (100/102 °F).
The hottest record is 41 °C (106 °F), set in July 2000.
In August 2024, the average maximum was 34.6 °C (94.3 °F).
