Climate chart - Kaliningrad
Kaliningrad has a Baltic climate, i.e. semi-continental, with cold winters and very mild to pleasantly warm summers.
Kaliningrad, formerly Königsberg, is a city of 475,000 inhabitants located in an exclave belonging to Russia, in the former East Prussia, between Poland and Lithuania, at almost 55 degrees north latitude.
The Baltic Sea is about 20 km (12 mi) from Kaliningrad, and there are two lagoons around the city, the Vistula Lagoon in the south and the Curonian Lagoon in the north. The coastal section in this lagoon is protected in the Curonian Spit National Park.

Precipitation is moderate, amounting to about 815 millimeters (32 inches) per year, with a relative minimum from February to May and a maximum in July and August.

Kaliningrad

Winter, from December to February, is cold: the average temperature in January is about -1.5 °C (29 °F).
The sky is often cloudy, and light snow often falls. The ground is normally covered in snow, although there can be relatively periods, characterized by wind and rain, in which the snow tends to melt.
In the exceptionally mild winter of 2019-2020, the temperature remained almost always above freezing, and it almost never snowed.
During cold waves, the temperature can drop to -15 °C (5 °F) or below, and once every few years below -20 °C (-4 °F). The coldest record is -33.3 °C (-27.9 °F), set in February 1956. This was also the last time the temperature fell below -30 °C (-22 °F); previously, it had fallen to -30.1 °C (-22.2 °F) in January 1950. It then fell to -28.9 °C (-20 °F) in January 1979, to -27.7 °C (-17.9 °F) in January 1987 and to -27.4 °C (-17.3 °F) in January 2003. In the 2010s, it fell to its lowest point of -24.7 °C (-12.5 °F) in February 2012.
The coldest month was January 1987, with a daily average of -14.1 °C (6.6 °F).

Summer, from June to August, is very mild to pleasantly warm, with fairly frequent rain and thunderstorms. The average in July is 19 °C (66 °F).
There can sometimes be hot periods, usually of short duration, in which the temperature reaches or exceeds 30 °C (86 °F). The hottest record is 36.5 °C (97.7 °F), set in August 1992.
