Climate chart - Abadan
The climate of Abadan is subtropical desert, with mild winters and extremely hot, sunny summers. Precipitation, scarce, occurs mostly from November to April.

Abadan is a city of 230,000 inhabitants located in the south-west of Iran, in the province of Khuzestan, at 30 degrees north latitude, about 60 km (35 mi) from the coast of the Persian Gulf. The city stands on an island between the rivers Shatt el-Arab (or Arvand Rud), which marks the border with Iraq, Karun, and Bahmanshir, a canal carved out of the latter.

Winter, from December to February, is very mild, so much so that there are many days with highs above 20 °C (68 °F). However, there can be somewhat cold periods, during which the temperature can approach freezing at night and remain at around 10/12 °C (50/54 °F) during the day. In January 1950 it dropped to -4.4 °C (24 °F), while more recently, in January 2012 it dropped to -2 °C (28.5 °F). In January 2008 there was one day with a maximum of 8 °C (46.5 °F).
Sometimes, during periods of stable weather, fog can form.

Summer is extremely hot, so much so that the highs in July and August brush 47 °C (116.5 °F). In fact, we are in one of the hottest areas in the world, which also includes southern Iraq and Kuwait. The hottest records are also among the highest in the world. In August 2022, the temperature reached 53 °C (127.5 °F).
However, even though the sea is close and there are wetlands around, the humidity is low because the wind blows regularly from the northwest, from the Mesopotamian desert, raising at times sand and dust.
