Climate chart - Jamshedpur
The climate of Jamshedpur (or Tatanagar) is tropical, with a rainy season from June to mid-October, due to the monsoon, and a dry season from mid-October to May. The rains usually end in early or mid-October.
The city is located in northeastern India, in the state of Jharkhand, less than a degree south of the Tropic of Cancer, and on the banks of the Subarnarekha River. To the north are the Dalma hills, the top of which is 930 meters (3,050 feet) above sea level.
From March to early June, before the monsoon, it is very hot, and showers occasionally occur, especially in May. In the hottest periods, the temperature can reach 44/45 °C (111/113 °F). In April 2010, it reached 46.3 °C (115.3 °F).
On the other hand, nights are cool from November to February, and can sometimes be even a bit cold when air masses come from the north. In January 2003, the temperature dropped to 4.4 °C (39.9 °F).
In addition, from November to January, fog can form at night and in the early morning.
