The climate of Muonio is cold continental, with freezing winters and mild summers.
The town is located at 240 meters (800 feet) above sea level, in northern Finland, in Lapland, on the border with Sweden.
The latitude (67° 57' N) shows that we are just north of the Polar Circle. The midnight sun can be seen from May 28th to July 17th. The white nights, when the sun sets but it doesn't get completely dark even at midnight, occur before and after the period of the midnight sun, ie from April 17th, and until August 27th.
