Weather and climate in Tulcan (Ecuador)

In Tulcán, there is a temperate, or subtropical mountain climate, mostly cool and cloudy.
The rains are not abundant, but they are frequent all year round. From June to September, we can consider it the dry period, in which however there are frequent drizzles.
At night it can get cold all year round, in fact the temperature can approach freezing. The sun shines quite rarely.
The city is the capital of the province of Carchi and is located in the far north of Ecuador, at 2,900 meters (9,500 feet) above sea level, on the border with Colombia, beyond which lies the city of Ipiales.

To the southwest of the city is the El Ángel ecological reserve, where the altitude exceeds 4,000 meters (13,100 feet), and the weather is often cold, cloudy and foggy, with long-lasting rains.
