Climate chart - Salinas
The climate of Salinas is tropical arid, with a hot, relatively rainy period from January to April and a dry, cooler period from June to November, while May and December are transitional months.
The seaside resort is located in Ecuador, in the province of Santa Elena, at 2 degrees south latitude. We are in the so-called "puntilla de Santa Elena", the tip of a small peninsula on the coast of the Pacific Ocean. The favorable conditions (wind and waves) attract surfers from all over the world, who practice for example on the beach of Punta Carnero.
In the area, there are also some cities such as La Libertad and Santa Elena.
From January to April, it is hot, although the breeze gives some relief. The sun doesn't shine very often, however, there are some sunny days. The rains are irregular, and there are long periods without rain. Sometimes, however, especially in February and March, there can be heavy rains, which can give rise to floods, which are more likely during El Niño years. In addition, during El Niño years, the sea can rise, and in high tide, anomalous waves can cause coastal flooding.
Starting in May, the Humboldt Current gradually lowers the temperature of the sea and air, and inhibits the formation of rains. A moderate wind blows from the ocean, and sometimes it is almost too cool to go to the beach. The sky remains often cloudy, even though the sun can come out in the central hours of the day.
However, the sun in Salinas shines a little more often than in other coastal areas of Ecuador.
