Climate chart - Manta
The climate of Manta (or San Pablo de Manta) is tropical arid, with a hot, relatively rainy period from January to April and a dry, cooler period from May to December.
From May to December, temperatures are lower, sometimes quite cool, and a moderate wind blows from the ocean; the sky is often cloudy, however, the rains are scarce or completely absent.
From January to April, it is hotter, and there are some sunny days; the rains are irregular, and there are long periods without rain, however, in El Niño years, the rains become much more frequent.
The city is located in the west of Ecuador, at 1 degree south latitude, on the coast of the Pacific Ocean, in the province of Manabí. The provincial capital, Portoviejo, is located 25 km (15 miles) to the southeast.
The climate is arid due to the Humboldt Current, a cool sea current from Chile that lowers both the air and the ocean temperature by a few degrees. On the other hand, as mentioned, even in the dry period, mists and cloud banks often form, which reduce the amount of sunshine.
