In Latacunga, there is a temperate, or subtropical mountain climate.
Temperatures are mild, spring-like throughout the year, while as regards to the rains, there is a dry season from June to September. Fog can form all year round, at night and in the early morning.
The city is located in north-central Ecuador, on the Andean plateau, at 2,800 meters (9,200 feet) above sea level, the same altitude as Quito, which is further to the north. Although the sun does not shine very often, its rays are very strong, as we are just south of the equator and at high altitudes.
Nearby are some volcanoes, the closest of which are to the west the Quilotoa, 3,914 meters (12,841 feet) high, and to the north-east the Cotopaxi, 5,897 meters (19,347 ft) high.
