The climate of Esbjerg is sub-oceanic, with cold winters and mild summers.
The city is located in the west of Denmark, in the Jutland peninsula, on the North Sea coast. In front of the city lies the island of Fanø.
Given the latitude (55°28'N), the white nights, in which the sun sets but it does not get completely dark even at midnight, occur from June 5 to July 7.
Although the winter is not very cold for the latitude, it is often humid, windy and rainy. Snow is quite frequent, although generally not abundant. Even in spring, until April or the first half of May, there is often cold and unstable weather.
Occasionally, there may be cold waves in winter, in which the temperature can drop below -15 °C (5 °F). The coldest record is -22 °C (-7.6 °F) and was set in January 1942.
