Climate chart - San Andrés
The climate of San Andrés is tropical, hot all year round, with a rainy season from May to mid-January, and a short dry season from mid-January to April.
The period from June to October is the hottest and most humid. From late October to mid-January, the north-east trade winds blow, which are a little cooler, but still bring frequent rains because the sea is warm and provides energy.
The small island, about 12 km (7.5 mi) long, is located in the Caribbean Sea, at 12 degrees north latitude, about 200 km (125 mi) to the east of Nicaragua, and is part of the Archipelago of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina department.
Inside the island there are hills, the highest of which reaches 88 meters (298 feet) in height.
The island is located in the southern part of the hurricane trajectory. The hurricane season runs from June to November, but they are most likely from August to October.
In November 2020, the hurricanes Eta and Iota have brought strong winds and produced widespread flooding within days of each other.
