Climate chart - Popayán
The climate of Popayán is tropical, tempered by the altitude, with stable temperatures throughout the year.
Popayán is a city of 260,000 inhabitants located in southwestern Colombia, in the Pubenza Valley, between the western and central Andean mountain ranges, at 1,735 meters (5,700 feet) above sea level and 2 degrees north latitude.

Precipitation is abundant, since it amounts to 2,100 millimeters (82.5 inches ) per year. Unlike the Andean cities located further north, such as Bogotá and Medellín, which have two relatively dry seasons, from December to February and from June to September, here there is only one from June to September.
At night, fog can form all year round.
The temperatures are very stable, however, on the hottest days, they can reach 29/30 °C (84/86 °F) all year round. At night, however, they can drop to around 10 °C (50 °F), especially in the southern hemisphere winter, that is, from June to August.
As often happens in the Andean cities of Colombia, the sun does not shine often. However, the relatively sunniest months are the least rainy ones, July and August.

Best Time

The best time to visit Popayán is from June to September, and especially the months of July and August, since these are the months in which rainfall is less frequent.
