Climate chart - Rankin Inlet
Rankin Inlet has a subarctic climate, with long, cold winters and quite mild summers.
Rankin Inlet is a town of about 3,000 inhabitants, located in north-central Canada, in the territory of Nunavut, in the Kivalliq region, on the northwest coast of Hudson Bay, and at almost 63 degrees north latitude.
We are in a windy area. The wind is able to increase the feeling of cold. The record wind chill is -70.5 °C (-94.9 °F).

Rankin Inlet

Precipitation is scarce, since it amounts to 315 millimeters (12.5 inches) per year. The only period in which it is moderate, exceeding 40 mm (1.6 in) per month, is from June to October.
The only months in which it never or almost never snows are July and August, while in June and September, rainfall prevails over snowfall, but it can still snow. In winter, snowfall is frequent, but generally not abundant.
On average, 135 centimeters (53 inches) of snow fall per year. The heaviest snowfall occurred in mid-May 2013, with 56 cm (22 in) in one day and 146 cm (57 in) in three days.

On the coldest days of the year, the temperature drops every year to around -40 °C (-40 °F) or below. The coldest record is -49.8 °C (-57.6 °F), set in February 1990.

Summer is quite mild, at least in the months of July and August.
However, there can be very mild periods, during which the temperature can reach or exceed 20 °C (68 °F), and more rarely 25 °C (77 °F). In the evening, however, the temperature drops a lot even in these cases, due to the breeze coming from the sea. The highest record is 30.5 °C (86.9 °F), set in August 1991.

The sea in Hudson Bay is frozen in winter and spring, and remains very cold in summer.

As for the length of the days, since we are south of the Arctic Circle, the sun rises even on the shortest days of the year, and sets on the longest.
However, the white nights, in which it is not completely dark all night, occur from May 2 to August 10.
