Climate chart - Paulo Afonso
The climate of Paulo Afonso is tropical semi-arid, with irregular rainfall, quite frequent from January to July and rare from August to December.
The city is located in the state of Bahia, at 250 meters (820 feet) above sea level and at 9 degrees south latitude, and on the banks of the São Francisco River. To the south of the city there is an artificial lake, lake Paulo Afonso, formed by the waters of the river. In addition, the river gives life to canyons and waterfalls, protected in a natural monument.
We are in the north-east of Brazil, the driest area of the country, where the vegetation is the so-called caatinga.
Temperatures drop a bit in the austral winter, from June to August.
