Climate chart - Mendoza
The climate of Mendoza is arid subtropical, affected by altitude, with dry, mild winters (but during which it can get cold at night), and very hot, quite rainy summers. In summer, the rains (which, however, are usually not abundant) often occur in the form of thunderstorms. January is the wettest month.
The city is located in north-central Argentina, at 32 degrees south latitude, and 750 meters (2,460 feet) above sea level.
About 110 km (70 mi) to the west is Aconcagua, the highest mountain in the Americas with its 6,962 meters (22,841 feet).
Further east are the ski resorts of Vallecitos, at almost 3,000 meters (10,000 ft) above sea level, and Los Puquios, in a valley at 2,700 meters (8,800 ft). Skiing is generally possible from July to September, although at these latitudes, where the Andes are arid, snow is not always guaranteed.

Mendoza

Returning to Mendoza, despite the altitude, in summer, from December to February (and sometimes also in spring, in October and November), there can be heat waves, in which the temperature can reach or exceed 40 °C (104 °F). In January 2003, it reached 44.4 °C (111.9 °F).
Even in summer, however, there can be outbursts of cool air from the south, perhaps accompanied by a thunderstorm, which can greatly lower the temperature for two or three days, so much so that at night it can be very cool even in midsummer.
Since winter is dry, snow in Mendoza is rare, however, it can occur from time to time, such as in the months of July 2000, 2007 and 2010.
On the other hand, night frosts are quite frequent. In July 1976 the temperature dropped to -7.8 °C (18 °F).
On the other hand, the wind that comes down from the mountains, called Zonda and similar to the Föhn and the Chinook, is able to raise the temperature by several degrees, it is no coincidence that the heat records are around 30 °C (86 °F) even in winter.

Best Time

To visit Mendoza you can choose the period from mid-April to mid-May, since in winter it can be cold, while in spring and summer it can be very hot.
