The climate of Tindouf is subtropical desert, with very mild winters (but during which it can get cold at night) and very hot, sunny summers.
The city is located in western Algeria, near the border with Morocco, Western Sahara and Mauritania, at nearly 28 degrees north latitude and at an altitude of 400 meters (1,300 feet).
In winter it can get cold at night, in fact the temperature can drop to around 0 °C (32 °F). In January 2005 it dropped to -3 °C (26.5 °F), plus there was one day with a high of 10 °C (50 °F).
In summer, temperatures are very high, and from June to August the thermometer can reach 47/48 °C (117/118 °F). In 1936 the temperature would have reached 57 °C (134.6 °F), even though the data of that period are not reliable. The record of the last decades is 48.9 °C (120 °F), set in July 2023.
