The climate of Béchar is subtropical desert, with mild winters (during which it can get cold at night) and very hot, sunny summers.
The city is located in western Algeria, at nearly 32 degrees north latitude and 780 meters (2,560 feet) above sea level.
In winter, when cold air from the north manages to reach this area, there can be cold days, with lows of 0 °C (32 °F) or a little below and highs of 6/7 °C (43/45 °F). In January 1992 and January 2005, the temperature dropped to -5 °C (23 °F).
