The climate of Korçë is continental, with cold winters and warm summers.
The city is located in eastern Albania, 900 meters (3,000 feet) above sea level, near the border with Greece.
In winter, cold spells from Russia can bring snowfalls and intense frosts. For example, the temperature dropped to -14.5 °C (6 °F) in January 1987 and 2017.
In summer, very hot days are possible, though less than at sea level. The records in July and August are of 37/38 °C (99/100 °F).

The best times to visit Korçë are spring and autumn, and in particular, the months of May, June and September: daytime temperatures are pleasant, although it's better to bring a sweater and a jacket for the evening. In July and August, the temperature is usually not too hot, however, there is the risk of some very hot days, which can happen, though more rarely, also in the second half of June and in the first half of September.
